Coach |
Who are we? After 30 years together, we're still not sure. I guess you could say we're four hard working guys doing what we love; making music. One night in '79, Greg came down the hall humming "Dum dum dum dum dum...dum-be-do-be...". Dave, strumming his new guitar said, "I know that one." Six hours and many recordings later, Gil and Jeff drove the living room tape to WAUP where a good friend was late night DJ. As the four of us listened to it playing on the radio, we asked "What should we call ourselves?" Dave was wearing his girl's softball coaching T-shirt; COACH was born! Months later we were talked into entering a talent contest which we ultimately won. Part of the prize was a paying job each Saturday for four weeks. Now we had to learn lots of music...fast. We did and for the past 30 years we've played out about once a month. Our philosophy is that any more than this is a job (and we already have one of those). After 30 years, we still have a hard time describing our sound. We use an amplified 12-string acoustic guitar to accompany our 4-part vocal harmonies, producing a doo-wop sound, but expanding the musical selections into 50's & 60's rock & roll, acappella and barbershop. We routinely play family venues, picnics, parties, bandstands, benefits and most recently at Caf?Piscitelli's patio beside Akron Fulton Airport. -Jeff Bull |
